Live Debris 2009: Collaboration
One of the greatest barriers in the development of realistic and
sustainable recycling/reuse traditions and infrastructure is humanity’s
aversion to garbage. Garbage, much like the impoverished
communities that survive from it, is perceived as an unclean
burden to society rather than the valuable
resource that it is increasingly becoming. Fortunately,
designers, innovators and impoverished survivors around
the world are demonstrating that garbage is both a profitable and necessary
resource that demands our creative attention.
Live Debris 2009 travels to three distinct world cities to artistically reflect
upon their cultures’ differing relationships with garbage. Starting
and ending in Portland, Oregon, a greening city successfully overcoming its
stigmas about garbage, Live Debris 2009 travels to Rio de Janeiro and Beirut
as a multi-lingual, collaborative series of events networking local and international
artists and innovators to reflect upon humanity’s rapidly changing relationships
with garbage. Works of reuse art and design will travel from Portland to Rio
de Janeiro, where Brazilian artists will physically and philosophically add
to the same works to express their more polemic and necessity-based attitudes
towards humanity’s discards. After 6 months of reuse design workshops,
lectures and exhibitions engaging all walks of life, the art works will travel
to Beirut, where Lebanese artists will also elaborate upon them with discarded
materials, still an uncommon practice throughout the Middle East. Ultimately,
the completed works will be the product of three artists from around the world,
and will return to Portland, Oregon.
In linking artists across the globe in single works of art, Live Debris aims
to facilitate international collaboration in reuse design, and to assuage
societal aversions to garbage in distinct cities around the world by demonstrating
its artistic and functional merits. Like Live Debris 2008, which took place
in Beirut, Lebanon, Live Debris 2009 events will be documented on the website
www.redsemillaroja.org, an international, web-based network of socially engaged
artists, providing information and opportunities for continued collaboration.
Live Debris is seeking sponsorship from organizations, companies and individuals
who are passionate about furthering reuse innovation. We are seeking $100
donations to sponsor a contributing artist (of which there will be 30 total).
We are also looking for larger contributions to sponsor a work of art, which
will be the product of three artists from around the world, and which will
be given to the sponsor upon completion. Finally, we are looking for in kind
contributions in the form of publicity, editing and translation (English,
Portuguese, French and Levantine Arabic).

Escombros Vivos 2009: Colaboração
Umas das maiores barreiras contra o desenvolvimento de tradições e infra-estruturas realistas e sustentáveis de reciclagem/reutilização e é aversão da humanidade ao lixo. O lixo, muito como as comunidades carentes que sobrevivem de ele, é percebido como um peso sujo à sociedade em vez do recurso valioso que ele realmente se esta tornando. Felizmente, desenhistas, artistas e sobreviventes empobrecidos ao redor do mundo demonstram que o lixo é ambos um recurso lucrativo e necessário que exige nossa atenção criativa.
Escombros Vivos 2009 viaga a três cidades mundiais distintas para refletir
artisticamente sobre os seus relacionamentos culturais ao lixo. Começando
e o terminando em Portland, Oregon (EUA), uma cidade verde superando as suas
estigmas contra o lixo, Escombros Vivos 2009 vai viajar ao Rio de Janeiro
e Beirute como um série multilingüe e colaborativo de eventos
para ligar artistas internacionais e locais na reflexão sobre os relacionamentos
distintos da humanidade com o lixo. As peças feitas de materiais reaproveitados
vão viajar de Portland ao Rio de Janeiro, onde artistas brasileiros
irão fisicamente e filosoficamente adicionar ás mesmas peças
para expressar a perspectiva brasileira as coisas descartadas. Depois que
6 meses de talheres, palestras e exibições, as peças
viajarão a Beirute, onde artistas libaneses também elaborarão
sobre elas com materiais descartados, ainda uma prática incomum por
todo o Médio Oriente. Finalmente as peças completadas serão
o produto de três artistas de ao redor do mundo, e retornará
a Portland, Oregon.
Por ligar artistas no mundo em fazer colaborar em peças de arte, Escombros
Vivos facilita a colaboração internacional na reutilização
de materiais, e alivia aversões sociais ao lixo por demonstrar o valor
artístico e funcional do lixo. Como Escombros Vivos 2008, que aconteceu
em Beirute, Líbano, Escombros Vivos 2009 será documentado no
website www.redsemillaroja.org, uma rede internacional de artistas que usam
a arte para cria mudança positiva no mundo, fornecendo informação
e oportunidades para colaboração continuada.
Escombros vivos procura patrocínio de organizações, as
companhias e indivíduos que estão interessados em promover a
inovação com materiais reaproveitados. Procuramos doações
de $100 USD para patrocinar um artista que vai contribuir ao projeito (haverá
30 em total). Nós também procuramos contribuições
maiores para patrocinar um trabalho da arte, que será o produto de
três artistas de ao redor do mundo, e que será dado ao patrocinador
na conclusão do show. Finalmente, procuramos em contribuições
na forma de publicidade, editação e tradução (inglês,
português, francês e arábico).
