Live Debris Under the Sea
Plastic Seats (Seat Anemone and Seat Foam)
Discarded berry containers
Octopuseat
Plastic did not exist when legged creatures first slid forth from the sea. Today’s oceans spit forth garbage and yellow foam, reminding us that out there beyond view swirl currents thick with plastic and other waste. Origin of life and symbol of the subconscious, the ocean compels us to face our garbage. Look deep into the seaweed of our subconscious and seek out the sources of our darkest tendencies. Plastics or people-- we reject and discard, hate and disregard, both in much the same way. It is in this deeply-rooted habit of thoughtless disposal that waste can help us to understand why humanity is plagued by violence, rejection and inequality. In demonstrating the value of our material waste, Live Debris aims to help people also find value in ideas and people that we intrinsically reject.

The plastic seats in this installation were made for sitting. Please have a seat. But I ask that, when you do, spend a moment considering what swims there in the swirling eddies of your subconscious.
